Taiko Drums Arrived at Plumpton High School

During the school vacation our long awaited taiko drums arrived having been made to order from Taiwan. Taiko are a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. In Japanese, the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko.

Students and Mrs Nicholls are extremely excited to be able to move from the existing drums they have been using onto our new taiko drums. We have two music classes focusing on taiko drumming at Plumpton including one of our gifted and talented programs.

 

We look forward to performing at school and further afield with a goal to perform at the NSW Schools Spectacular. Below is a link to a group of school student taiko drummers performing:
