Hindi Language - Bharatiyam at Plumpton High School

Hindi Language - Bharatiyam at Plumpton High School

Incredible honour to have Aunty Mala Mehta OAM (President of Indo-Aust Bal Bharathi Vidyalaya) and Aunty Niyati Mehta, Director of ICCR (Consulate General of India-Sydney) to lead a ‘Bharatiyam’ program organised by our Hindi teacher, Mrs Kamal Kaur. The opportunity was provided by the ICCR, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, and Indo-Aust Bal Bharathi Vidyalaya Hindi School for which we are extremely grateful.

Plumpton High School is teaching Hindi to Year 7 students as a part of its comprehensive language program. Our school has introduced Chinese, Italian and Hindi languages that are available for students to study from Years 7-12. This strengthens the understanding of Asian history, culture and keeps the languages and cultures alive in Australia. It also supports our students who increasingly engage as global citizens were knowing a second or third language is considered a highly valued skill for a successful future. Having a school with 66 cultures is a great advantage where many of the students already speak multiple languages and are highly engaged in the language program.

"BHARATIYAM" is an initiative of like-minded individuals with a singular objective to make a positive impact on the environment and the society at large. It has been successful in the last few years in creating awareness of responsible behaviour towards environment through a novel and engaging methodology of art and culture infused activities.

Bharatiyam is led by a team of dedicated professionals who are recognized for their outstanding contributions and excellence of expertise in their respective fields. To work for a better world is a cause close to their hearts which has galvanized them to pool in their collective resources and embark on the mission to make a meaningful impact for the betterment of the environment.

The key highlights of the program day were presentations and activities like dance, songs, poems, quizzes and competitions. The winning students received fancy gifts for participating in the competitions. The students participated with great enthusiasm in the activities and were fully engaged throughout. It was an informative, entertaining, and educational program for our students, who enjoyed, were engaged and participated in the activities.

Once again thank you to Aunty Mala Mehta OAM and Aunty Niyati Mehta for their generous support of our language program and school.
