Year 9 Goals for First Nations Students – Thank You ABCN & Microsoft

12 Sep 2023

Year 9 students attended the ABCN Year 9 Goals program for First Nations Students at Microsoft in North Sydney.

The ABCN Goals for First Nations Students program was co-designed by ABCN with Aboriginal Educators and Community Representatives.

It is part of the ABCN Career Mentoring Curriculum for First Nations students. Students and mentors work together through facilitated activities and conversation topics. ABCN programs give students an opportunity to network outside their immediate community and with people from a variety of careers and backgrounds.

Mentors sharing their career journeys and work/life challenges can make an enormous impact on students. Goals focuses on helping students identify their unique strengths, set goals, develop resilience strategies, and build confidence and communication skills.

The aim is to encourage continuing education to Year 12 and beyond. Typically, students who take part in the program are from Year 9 and have been identified by their school as students who would greatly benefit from a mentor/mentee relationship.

Mentors are required to attend an online Mentor Briefing with a School Community Representative to build mentor confidence on how to best engage and support Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander students from that Place.

Thank you to ABCN and Microsoft for supporting our First Nations students. This ensures they become the next generation of mentors and leaders within our community showing the path forward to successful futures. Thank you to our Futures Centre and Karlene for providing access to this innovative opportunity.
