Through the opportunity to connect with a mentor who has experience across various industries, I have gained a clearer understanding of potential career pathways, workplace expectations, and the skills required for future success. The program has allowed me to ask questions about employment, university, and career opportunities while receiving valuable guidance from someone with real-world experience who can support me along the way.
The Corporate Mentoring Program has helped me become more confident in my future plans and has encouraged me to explore opportunities beyond those I had previously considered. I am grateful for the support, advice, and encouragement I have received and look forward to applying these lessons as I continue working towards my future goals.
Stepping into the "golden spotlight" has taught me discipline, confidence, and the power of having a voice, qualities I now hope to carry into a future in law. After finishing school, I aspire to study a Bachelor of Laws and Arts at either the University of New South Wales or the University of Canberra. My interest in law developed through following parliamentary debates, analysing current affairs, and engaging with discussions on political and social issues, particularly cases involving racial discrimination and Indigenous rights. These experiences revealed to me how the law can both protect and fail the most vulnerable members of society.
I am drawn to a career as a barrister, where constructing persuasive arguments, thinking quickly under pressure, and advocating with clarity are essential. I hope to refine the skills I have developed through creative pursuits such as painting and singing, including communication, confidence, and critical thinking, and apply them in the courtroom. Through these experiences, I have learned to take risks, trust my judgement, and express my ideas with conviction. Being part of the Corporate Mentoring Program has felt like opening one door after another. Having a mentor who confidently leads digital briefing sessions and face-to-face networking opportunities has been deeply meaningful. She works as a Customer Service Supervisor at a leading Australian telecommunications company, managing a team responsible for delivering data, voice, and mobile services. Observing how she manages client relationships, communicates under pressure, and leads with both efficiency and empathy has provided me with valuable insight into the transferable skills I hope to bring into my future career as a barrister.
Personally, I feel the experience has given me a strong sense of direction. Having my questions answered openly and honestly has left me feeling more prepared for what comes next. I am often reminded of the saying “You can either experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret, you decide." Through my mentor’s guidance, I have come to understand this concept in a practical and meaningful way. While my path may continue to evolve, I feel equipped with the mindset, skills, and support needed to move forward with confidence. Her belief in my goals has strengthened my motivation to pursue the future I am working towards.
Hello, my name is Zaid, and I enjoy spending meaningful time with my family and friends whenever I can. I enjoy meeting new people, sharing stories, learning about different experiences, and connecting with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. One of my favourite hobbies is spending time with my close friends, as they provide support, encouragement, and plenty of laughter. I enjoy participating in social activities that help me build confidence, strengthen my communication skills, and develop meaningful relationships. I believe that surrounding myself with positive people helps me stay motivated and maintain a positive outlook on life.
I have been studying at Plumpton High School since 2021, and my journey there has helped me grow both academically and personally. My favourite subject is Business Studies because I enjoy learning about leadership, teamwork, marketing, and how successful organisations operate in competitive environments. Learning new concepts and developing practical knowledge motivates me to continue improving and achieving my goals.
I truly appreciate the opportunities provided through the ABCN Corporate Mentoring Program. This program has helped me build confidence, prepare for future opportunities, and develop important personal and professional skills. Through the guidance and support of my mentor, I have gained a more positive outlook on my future and a greater understanding of the pathways available to me after school.
My long-term goal is to become a successful business owner or day trader. I am interested in understanding how businesses grow, how financial markets operate, and how strategic decisions can create opportunities for success. I look forward to continuing to learn, develop my skills, and work towards building a successful future through dedication, perseverance, and hard work.
My interests include exploring new experiences, travelling, and participating in taekwondo. When I was younger, I was a shy person, but as I grew older, I gradually stepped outside of my comfort zone and became more confident when interacting with others. This personal growth has helped me become more open-minded, adaptable, and willing to embrace new opportunities. I enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures, people, and environments because it helps me better understand the world and the way society functions.
At school, my favourite subjects are Society and Culture and Mathematics. I am interested in these fields because they combine communication, problem-solving, and an understanding of human behaviour. I believe these skills can make a positive impact in workplace environments and help organisations support their employees effectively. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in Human Resources, where I can work closely with people and contribute to creating positive, supportive, and productive workplaces.
Having a Corporate Mentor has been an incredibly valuable experience. Through the guidance, support, and real-world insight provided by my mentor, I have gained a greater understanding of my chosen career pathway and the skills required to succeed in a professional environment. The mentoring experience has helped me stay focused on my goals, build confidence, and gain a clearer understanding of what a career in Human Resources involves beyond what can be learned at school.
I greatly appreciate the opportunities provided through the ABCN Corporate Mentoring Program and the meaningful connections I have built through the experience. The knowledge, advice, and encouragement I have received have helped me feel more prepared for the future and motivated to continue working towards my goals.
I enjoy a variety of hobbies and interests, including baking, crocheting, travelling, and staying active through badminton and karate. My future career goal is to work in the medical field, whether as a nurse, doctor, or a paediatrician. I hope to pursue higher education at the University of Sydney and continue building the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I have wanted to wear the white coat from a young age, and observing the dedication and compassion of healthcare professionals has strengthened my commitment to this career pathway. For me, success is not only about achieving personal goals but also about making a meaningful contribution to my community and helping those in need.
Being part of the Corporate Mentoring Program has provided me with valuable advice, resources, and guidance that support me on my journey. Through the program, I have gained insight into opportunities and experiences that I once only imagined, while also building confidence in my abilities and aspirations. Having a mentor has allowed me to learn from their experiences, gain a greater understanding of the professional world, and receive encouragement as I work towards my goals.
The program has increased my motivation, broadened my perspective, and brought me closer to the career I have always hoped to pursue. I am grateful for the support and inspiration I have received and look forward to applying these lessons as I continue working towards my future aspirations.
Two of the hobbies that resonate most deeply with me are reading and dancing. Reading provides a form of escapism and allows me to explore perspectives beyond my own, helping me develop empathy and a broader understanding of others. Through the program, I have strengthened my organisational skills, developed greater confidence in my abilities, and gained valuable insight into the professional world in ways I had never previously imagined.
The experience has encouraged me to think more critically about my future, explore new possibilities, and continue working towards my goals with confidence and determination. I am grateful for the support, advice, and encouragement I have received and look forward to applying these lessons as I pursue my future aspirations.
My interests reflect the things that ignite my curiosity and continuously encourage me to explore, learn, and grow. One of my greatest passions is music. Since I was two years old, music has been a significant part of my life. Through singing and playing instruments, I am able to express myself, create lasting memories, and strengthen my connections with others. As I grew older, hip-hop also captured my attention, leading me to participate in dance studios and Bring It On. I also enjoy sports such as volleyball and basketball, which allow me to stay active, develop teamwork skills, and build meaningful friendships. In addition, I am committed to my church community and value attending youth gatherings. I remain open to new opportunities and consistently strive to improve my skills and abilities.
After leaving school, I hope to attend either the University of Technology Sydney or Australian Catholic University to further my education and broaden my career opportunities. I aspire to pursue a career as a paediatric nurse while also sharing my passion for music as a music tutor. My hardworking mother is one of my greatest inspirations in the healthcare field, and my desire to support and care for vulnerable children further motivates me to pursue this pathway. Ever since I was young, people have called me a “superstar” after my performances, inspiring me to continue developing my musical talents and sharing them with others. In the future, I hope to make my family proud while making a meaningful contribution to society through both healthcare and music.
Being selected to participate in the Corporate Mentoring Program has been a valuable opportunity that has supported my personal and professional growth. Having a mentor by my side has provided me with guidance, advice, and shared experiences that have helped me stay focused, motivated, and committed to achieving my goals. My mentor has been an inspirational role model, demonstrating positive values and encouraging me to reach my full potential.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and support I have received through this program and look forward to the future with optimism, confidence, and determination. The lessons I have learned will continue to guide me as I work towards achieving my aspirations and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Two of my hobbies are reading and watching documentaries, as they allow me to learn more about society, history, and different perspectives. These interests connect strongly with my passion for Legal Studies and Modern History, which are my favourite subjects at school. Both subjects have strengthened my goal of becoming a criminal lawyer, a career inspired by my family legacy and by my desire to help people who feel unheard and ensure they receive justice and fair representation.
I am also very grateful for the Corporate Mentoring Program, as it has provided me with valuable insight into life after school, university, and the professional workplace. Having Barbara as part of this experience has been extremely beneficial, as she has shared valuable advice, guidance, and real-world knowledge about balancing responsibilities and preparing for future career pathways. She has given me insight into her own journey and how she manages the challenges and successes of her professional life.
Through her support, I have developed a better understanding of workplace expectations, professionalism, and the transition from high school to further education and employment. The program has greatly increased my confidence and motivation to continue working towards my future career in law.
I am grateful for the opportunities, encouragement, and knowledge I have gained through this experience. The lessons I have learned will continue to guide me as I work towards achieving my goals and pursuing a career where I can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
My interests primarily revolve around exploring new hobbies and discovering more about myself. Throughout my life, mathematics has been one of my greatest passions due to my love of numbers and the logical reasoning involved in solving problems. Through our discussions, I have gained a better understanding of the engineering profession and the steps required to achieve my goals.
I look forward to continuing to learn from my mentor about how I can further develop my skills, improve my daily habits, and prepare myself for future challenges. The Corporate Mentoring Program has provided me with valuable guidance, encouragement, and perspective, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone who inspires me to continue striving towards my ambitions.
Words and art are intertwined in ways that I find endlessly fascinating. They serve as mediums through which ideas, stories, and experiences from the past, present, and future are preserved and shared, allowing us to learn both objectively and subjectively. This relationship has been the focus of my curiosity for many years and has significantly influenced the future pathways I am considering.
For as long as I can remember, sketching with blunted pencils and filling diaries with lengthy recounts have been second nature to me, almost instinctive. Over time, these hobbies have evolved into enduring passions, providing meaningful ways for me to express myself while also learning from the experiences they offer. Reading is another important interest of mine, particularly when combined with historical studies. Through these pursuits, I have been able to satisfy my curiosity and passion for learning, both within the classroom and through my interactions with the world around me. It is through these experiences that I have discovered and refined my passions.
From childhood through to adolescence, my career aspirations have often shifted alongside my evolving interests and values. More recently, my love of reading and writing, combined with my desire to engage with diverse artistic forms and mediums, has led me to consider studying Fine Arts or pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. As I have matured, I have identified careers that align closely with both my interests and skill set, combining creativity with critical thinking and communication. These include journalism, curatorial work, and a career as an author.
What appeals to me most about these professions is their ability to transform abstract ideas into tangible creations. Whether through written works, exhibitions, or storytelling, these careers provide opportunities to bridge the gap between imagination and reality. The process of taking a concept and shaping it into something meaningful, accessible, and impactful has fascinated me for many years and continues to inspire my future ambitions.
The Corporate Mentoring Program has provided me with the opportunity to connect with someone who can offer guidance, insight, and support as I work towards these goals. Prior to joining the program, I was uncertain about how to access professional networks and opportunities that could help me pursue my aspirations. Through my mentor, I have gained invaluable exposure to experiences, advice, and opportunities that may otherwise have remained unavailable to me.
Beyond providing practical guidance, the mentoring experience has strengthened my confidence in my own abilities and future direction. It has encouraged me to think critically about my goals, remain open to new opportunities, and approach challenges with greater resilience. The program has reinforced the importance of integrity, diligence, and lifelong learning, while also giving me a clearer understanding of the pathways available to me.
Throughout my life, I have had many experiences that have shaped the interests, skills, and aspirations I have today. Some of my key interests include exploring new ideas, working with numbers, conducting research, technology, and gaming. These interests have helped me develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills, which have contributed to my growing passion for finance.
I have always enjoyed working with numbers. From a young age, mathematics was a subject that came naturally to me, and I enjoyed the challenge of solving problems and understanding how different concepts worked. My interest in finance began in Year 8 when I chose the Money Matters elective. Through this subject, I was introduced to financial mathematics and learned how mathematical formulas could be applied to real-world financial situations. As I continued to learn more about finance and accounting, my interest in the field grew. I enjoy analysing information, solving problems, and working with numbers. I believe these strengths align well with a career in the finance industry. What particularly appeals to me about accounting and finance is that it was one of the first career pathways that genuinely matched both my skills and interests. Learning more about the profession has reinforced my belief that it is a field in which I could succeed and continue to grow professionally.
After completing school, I intend to attend university to further develop my knowledge and understanding of finance and business. At this stage, I am considering studying a Bachelor of Commerce, although I remain open to exploring other related pathways as I continue to learn more about my interests and future goals. I may also pursue postgraduate study in the future to further enhance my skills, qualifications, and career opportunities.
Having a Corporate Mentor will help me achieve these goals by providing guidance, advice, and insights from someone with real-world experience in the corporate environment. Through this program, I hope to gain a greater understanding of different career pathways, workplace expectations, and the skills required to succeed in a professional setting. I also hope to learn more about myself and gain greater clarity about the direction I would like to take in the future.
Overall, I believe the Corporate Mentoring Program will be a valuable opportunity for both personal and professional growth. By learning from my mentor’s experiences and advice, I hope to build my confidence, expand my knowledge, and develop a clearer understanding of who I want to become in the future.
My faith is a central part of who I am and plays an important role in guiding my values, decisions, and aspirations. It has taught me the importance of compassion, integrity, service, and resilience, qualities that I strive to demonstrate in both my academic and personal life.
I am an ambitious and resilient student with a strong interest in family law and a passion for understanding how legal systems can protect and support individuals and families during significant life challenges. Baking provides a creative outlet and has taught me valuable lessons in patience, precision, and perseverance. Both hobbies encourage me to continually learn and improve.
Through this Corporate Mentoring Program, I hope to gain valuable insight into professional workplaces, learn from experienced mentors, and develop skills that will support my future aspirations. I am eager to build meaningful connections, explore different career pathways, and step outside my comfort zone. I look forward to applying the knowledge and experiences gained through this program as I work towards my goal of studying law and using my skills to make a positive impact within my community and beyond.
Some of my hobbies and interests include spending time with friends and family, photography, travelling, and music. Throughout my time at school, I have actively participated in a range of leadership and career development programs, including the Corporate Mentoring Program, which I hope will support me in my journey beyond high school. Over the past few years, I have made a conscious effort to step outside my comfort zone, embracing new opportunities and experiences while building my confidence. The program has also encouraged me to remain focused and motivated as I work towards my goal of becoming a corporate lawyer. Through this experience, I have developed greater confidence, strengthened important skills, and increased my understanding of the professional world. I believe the guidance and support I have received through this program will play a significant role in helping me successfully transition from high school to university and, ultimately, into my future career.
My interests include reading, writing and continuously learning about the world around me. I have always been a curious person who enjoys asking questions and seeking to understand different perspectives. Whether it is through books, articles, documentaries, or conversations with others, I am always looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge.
When I was younger, I was quite shy and often found it difficult to step outside of my comfort zone. However, as I have grown older, I have become more confident in communicating with others and embracing new experiences. This personal growth has helped me develop strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to take on challenges. I believe these experiences have shaped me into a more resilient, adaptable, and open-minded person.
At school, my favourite subjects are English and Society and Culture. I enjoy English because there is rarely a single right or wrong answer. Writing gives me the freedom to explore ideas, express creativity, and consider different perspectives without limits. Society and Culture is particularly interesting to me because it examines how individuals, communities, and societies interact and change over time. These subjects have strengthened my interest in understanding people and the world around me, while also encouraging me to think critically about important social issues.
After finishing school, I hope to study Law at UNSW Sydney. I am interested in law because it combines communication, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving. I am drawn to a career that allows me to help others, advocate for fairness, and contribute positively to society. I hope to use the skills and knowledge I gain through studying law to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and within my community.
