Congratulations Emily Joan – Successful Teacher Applicant for The Simpson Prize
6 Feb 2026
Congratulations to Emily Joan, one of our outstanding History teachers at Plumpton High School, who has been selected as a successful applicant for the prestigious Simpson Prize teacher program. Emily is also a proud alumna of Plumpton High School, having graduated in 2019. As a student, she was a Simpson Prize winner and had the incredible opportunity to travel to Gallipoli to attend the ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremonies.
The Simpson Prize, established in 1999, is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education through Civics and Citizenship Education and is administered by the History Teachers’ Association of Australia (HTAA). This national competition encourages Year 9 and 10 students to engage in civics-based research focused on the service of Australians during World War One and World War Two.
Each year, the Simpson Prize Advisory Committee selects three teachers from across Australia to accompany student winners on study tours. For 2026, the program includes an initial visit to Canberra in early March, followed by a 10-day overseas commemorative tour to key historical sites.
In March 2026, Emily will join 16 student winners and runners-up—two students from each state and territory—on a four-day study program in Canberra. Then, from April 17th to 27th, she will participate in an extensive overseas commemorative study tour to Japan and Singapore, culminating in Anzac Day ceremonies.
Once again, congratulations to Emily Joan on this remarkable achievement!
