Congratulations to Summah-Rose Dickson, Alicia Templeton, Jack Winters, Tyson Winters and Kathleen Kennedy of year 8 who recently won Aurora Scholarships. They are 5 of 30 winners of these prestigious scholarships across Western Sydney. The Indigenous Academic Enrichment Program builds increased academic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students.
Scholarships commence in Year 8 providing intensive and continuous educational support through to the end of the first year out of high school. Each student receives 200 hours of support annually to ensure that they achieve their goals and potential.
The aim of the scholarship program is for every Indigenous to complete high school with the academic skills to succeed in higher education and employment.
As well as academic excellence, the Aurora Scholarship program fosters resilience through strengthening culture and identity with the support of Elders, Indigenous mentors and specialist staff.
Great credit also needs to be paid to these students great teachers, our Aboriginal Education Officer Karlene Rex, our PACE Team and parents for supporting our Aboriginal students that is leading to their success.
