Congratulations Zahra Junaid Certificate of Achievement 2020 UN Youth NSW Voice

Plumpton High School principal Tim LLooyd congratulating Zahraa Junaid

Congratulations to Zahra Junaid in Year 8 who recently competed in the United Nations (UN) Youth NSW Voice competition. Zahra prepared a speech about a topic she is passionate about which was "how can Australian cities adapt to be more sustainable".

“I participated in the United Nation (UN) Youth Voice 2020 competition all thanks to Miss Galea who introduced me to it and helped me through the submission process. This was the 1st virtual competition (due to COVID) so it was different to what the competition usually looks like.

I prepared a speech on a topic that I was passionate about which was "how can Australian cities adapt to be more sustainable". My idea was that we can make our cities more sustainable by planting community gardens in which there will be free fruit and vegetables accessible to the public.

I filmed the speech for 9 hours including retakes because I wanted it to be perfect! After submitting the speech I was asked to attend a Zoom conference with the UN judges in which they asked me about my speech and some questions related to it. In the end I received some great and constructive feedback which can help me with my future speeches.

The judge mentioned how well researched my topic was and that it was presented very well. Unfortunately, I did not progress to the semi-finals. I recently received a Certificate of Achievement from the VOICE 2020".
