UTS U@Uni Winter School

UTS Winter school

During the school holidays, 18 of our Year 11 students spent the first week at UTS at the U@Uni Winter School. Winter School is a ‘hands-on’ experience across a range of subject areas including Business, Design, Education, Engineering & IT: Design and Build, Engineering & IT: Code and Create, Health, Media and Science. A full outline of all courses can be located through the link: https://www.uts.edu.au/.../uuni-academy/uuni-winter-school

Students worked alongside UTS academics, staff and student mentors to complete faculty-based projects and understand what university is really like. Throughout the week, students learnt about university courses and scholarships to assist them with their post-secondary school decisions. This is what they said......

Mohammad Al Jorani - "It was a great week, great job everyone."

Louise Barton - "Wow, can't believe it's over already. I had so much fun, I hope you all did as well. I'm so proud of everyone . Best 5 days of my life so far. I met so many amazing people, got a taste of Uni, and even a clearer future career path I want to take. I'm sad that it's over so soon but it makes me look forward to Uni even more."

Kairean Atera-Chapman - "Julie was the person you were talking to. She was so nice, she loved all the Plumpton students."

Saffanah Hussain - "The past week has been crazy, from the several emotions felt on the first day, including nervousness of meeting everyone in my faculty, to excitement of realising that UTS is the place for me. I learnt so many skills in that week, and most of it had nothing to do with learning, but with socializing with other people in my group. I met so many different people who all somehow shared the same personality as me, and then the people I never thought I could befriend. It was amazing and our final project killed. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity and letting me be involved in such a great experience."

Masroor Khan - "Gemma my experience changed so much for the better, UTS changed my life and how I see Uni. UTS felt like home to me, and I got to see a whole new world in UTS, thanks to you Gemma and the Uni, I would love to go to Summer School again and maybe make more new friends and get out of my comfort zone. I loved the 3D room we went into it looked so dope and amazing, never seen anything like that, also loved the 3D printing room that was so dope and intriguing to look at, these features of the Uni inspired my mind and made me love UTS even more."

Sabeeka Shakeel - "Hey Gemma, I have attended and am quiet enjoying the program. Thanks for checking in. Just in regard to my experience at UTS, I had an amazing experience with the Science faculty. We were able ti explore career pathways within Science and all the different areas within that field by being introduced to experiments in physics, biology and chemistry, while also exploring the unique data area, used to bring data and through sonar and locations, capturing a 3D experience with glasses. I was able to make many new friends and had a great time."

Sohila Mohammadi - "Hi Miss. It's amazing!"

Sarah McDonald - "I honestly had an absolute great time at the Winter School, getting to explore the university, meet many people and learn all parts of science. It was honestly something I will never forget, from meeting new people to getting to spend quality time with people I don't talk to that much at school. My favourite was chemistry because of the all the fun experiments. I loved meeting new people and made so many friends on the last day around 30 of us put all the tables together at lunch and sat as one big group talking about where we grew up and just getting to know each other. I wish it went for two weeks but I'm just glad I got the opportunity to participate in such a great program."

Tiarna Furneyvall - "I loved it. It was such a great experience. The mentors were great, and I made a lot of friends."

Thank you to UTS for your ongoing support of our students that is enabling them to access opportunities that will change their life circumstance and that of their families.
