Plumpton High School Year 12 UTS U@Uni Cohort completing their Year 12 UniPrep a part of their requirements to gain entry into a course of their choice at the University of Technology. This cohort were selected at the end of Year 10 and have been engaged in this university pathway throughout Year 11 and again will be throughout Year 12. This is a incredible opportunity for our students ensuring access to an opportunity that they may not have otherwise been able to secure.
In their final year of the U@Uni Academy Year 12 take part in UniPrep. It’s a free tutoring and mentoring program, supporting students to achieve their personal best and get ready to start uni. UniPrep assists students to decide what they want and prepare them to take it on. It focuses on different areas throughout the year, from study skills to discovering what inspires each student. The sessions cover areas essential for success.
The tutoring sessions we run aren’t as formal as high school classes. They are about smaller groups that are informal, flexible and tailored to students and their peers.
Session structure
In a typical tutoring session, you might work through past exam questions, share study tips, get help with your assignments and homework, and discuss subject material with other students and with your U@Uni Student Ambassadors. The Student Ambassadors can also share their personal experience of what it's like to start uni, how to choose your course or subjects, and other things you can expect if you choose to pursue uni yourself.
There will be some time during your sessions where UTS Student Ambassadors can also help make sure you are meeting the graduation requirements to gain entry to UTS through the U@Uni Academy.
UTS ambassadors
UniPrep sessions include mentoring and academic support delivered by UTS ambassadors — current students at UTS. Students may have met some of them during your Year 11 U@Uni Academy activities. They’ve been chosen as role models for their attitudes and skills useful for success in the HSC and first year of university. UTS ambassadors can guide students in what UTS has to offer, and what it means to be a student at UTS.
Thank you to UTS for providing this incredible opportunity for our students. This is Plumpton’s second U@Uni cohort with another soon to commence. Also a big thank you to Ms Avon our Student Advocate who leads this program for our school.
