UTS BiG Day In

students and Mr Jaswal

Mr Jaswal accompanied 13 of his Year 11 and 12 Software Design and Development (SDD) and Visual Design and Technology (VIDT) students to the UTS BiG Day In at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Broadway campus. Presenters included WiseTech Global, Adobe, IBM, Microsoft, Westpac, Google, NAB, TechnologyOne, Avanade, Department of Human Services, CBA, Animal Logic, Apple, Defence Force Recruiting, CBA and many more.

In 2019, BiG Day In hosted 182 speakers & 178 exhibitors nationally. Events were hosted in Wagga, Sydney (x 2), Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, Perth, Brisbane (x 2), Hobart, Canberra, Melbourne, Wangaratta & Adelaide. In 2020, 14 BiG Day In events we held. In 2021, 18 Big Day In events were run at locations including the Sunshine Coast, Perth, Adelaide & Brisbane plus as well as 12 Virtual BiG Day In events. In 2022, the BiG Day In resumed full face to face events in at least 12 locations.

The event has helped over 50,000 students explore where a career in technology can take them. The very first BiG Day In event was held at UTS in Sydney for 220 students (approximately 160 UTS students and 60 high school students) in 2012. The BiG Day In is an event designed for students by students – it was designed by two interns at the ACS Foundation who had a brief to develop an event that they and their peers would like to attend. The biggest of our BiG Day In events is held at UTS and needs to be run on 2 consecutive days. It is so popular that the Great Hall is filled to capacity (850 school students) with between 30 to 40 university students attending.

Between 10 – 12 BiG Day In events are held nationally each year with approximately 6,000 – 6,500 students attending. More than 40% of attendees are female students, which is more than twice the industry average. By the end of 2018, approximately 30,000 high school students had attended a BiG Day In event somewhere in Australia.
