09 Dec 2024
A huge congratulations to Rose Lucas our Champion AR reader for 2024 who has read 5,483,904 words. Congratulations to the 15 students across Year 7-9 who have read more than 1 million words during 2024 through the Accelerated Reader Program. Plumpton students in Years 7-9 read for the first 15 minutes of every English, HSIE and Science lesson
The program has assisted students greatly since it was implemented in 2018 and has played a key role in improving student literacy. This has resulted in the literacy ability of our students now sitting either above or well above similar schools in Australian NAPLAN data.
For students to succeed in school and beyond they need to have quality literacy skills that begins with being a proficient in reader. If students are good readers, they are then able to develop their writing skills an essential skill. We encourage parents to promote the importance of reading to their children for life success and to encourage their children to read independently for at least 30 minutes each day at home or outside of school time.
The Accelerated Reader (AR) is an educational program created by Renaissance Learning. It is designed to monitor and manage students' independent reading practice and comprehension in English. The program assesses students' performance through quizzes and tests based on the books they have read. As the students read and take quizzes, they are awarded points. AR monitors students' progress and establishes personalised reading goals according to their reading levels.
Once again congratulations to these students and to Ms Bailey and Ms Gonzaga the Head Teacher of our English Faculty who coordinate the program.
