University of Sydney 2024 Year 12 Future Focus

University of Sydney 2024 Year 12 Future Focus

30 of our students attended The University of Sydney 2024 Year 12 Future Focus event. The event kicked off with a campus tour. We ambled along along Eastern Avenue past buildings the Carslaw Building, the Law School and Fisher Library. We then moved on to the Quadrangle and past The Great Hall, where some students were mid graduation, and all decked out in their gowns and mortarboards. From there, we moved into the iconic underground Graffiti Tunnel where anyone is welcome to express their ideas/feelings (as long as it is not offensive!). We then headed to the Susan Wakil Health Building for introductions.

Students were provided with hands on experience on how to read the Undergraduate Guide, along with explanations of what degrees fall under what faculty/school, information on admission and alternate pathways and a guide to scholarship applications. After a short break, students broke into groups for their Faculty Experience Sessions where they were treated to hands-on practical activities in their area of interest (eg. Medicine, Architecture, Arts etc).

The aim of the activities was to stimulate curiosity and connect students with knowledge and career information in that specific area of study. After a delicious lunch on the upstairs patio, students moved to The Sibyl Centre within Women’s College. Here students attended the Faculty Expo Prep. They were able to chat with Student Ambassadors and staff from various faculties/schools to learn about course offerings, entry requirements, admission pathways and get all their questions answered.

Thank you to the University of Sydney for the opportunity to live the lessons of a university student. Also thank you to Gemma Avon our student advocate for supporting our students on their futures journey of prosperous post school options.
