Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Adventurous Journey – 48 Students Attend

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Adventurous Journey

In 2024 Plumpton High School has 48 students in Year 10 completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. Recently the students undertook their 3-day Adventurous Journey, a key component of the Award Framework. The journey was a combination of trekking 20km through the Ku-ring-gai National Park from Berowra and canoeing along the Hawkesbury River for 5km. The students camped in tents and prepared their own meals each night and day.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Framework builds our students leadership skills, courage, determination, teamwork and problem solving ability. In addition, the Framework that was implemented at Plumpton High School in 2015 contributes to students Exit Credential Transcript assisting them in post school pathways including university entrance processes, future employment opportunities and strengthening their personal brand.

Students will continue to undertake other components of the Silver Award during 2024, with an opportunity to commence the Gold Award later this year or early 2025.

Plumpton was awarded Duke of Edinburgh Program National Recognition as the ‘Whole of Year Model Australian Champions’ in 2023. The program has historically been the realm of Independent private schools providing students with a valuable internationally recognised credential.

Plumpton has 17 students completing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and 150 students in Year 9 completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award during 2024.

A huge thank you to Ms. Mckenzie and Mr. Canning who coordinate the framework and Tamika Rex who supports them as the administrator.

Tim Lloyd, Principal
